Rouding up Round 2 of the British F4 with a win!
[GB]A special weekend that didn’t start off in the best way possible, but oh boy, did it end with a bang.
Racing on the Indy layout of Brands Hatch is never easy. Dries managed to put his car in 8th spot after setting the 4th best time in the second qualifying group.
In R1, he moved up as much as he could in the first lap, but there was too little space to pass and, after multiple interruptions, it wasn’t really possible to make an overtake. Dries finished 7th, which is still a good result.
In R2, Dries started in P5 but got pushed off track by an opponent and therefore lost some places. He finished 7th again.
But then came R3, and what a banger this was. The conditions on track were damp, so most drivers started their formation lap on wet tires, but Dries and his team delivered a tactical masterclass by pitting on the formation lap and sticking on some dry tires, which would better suit the drying track. But because of the pit stop, Dries had to start from the pit lane, miles behind the front of the field. An early safety car helped him catch up. After the restart, he instantly managed to gain several places, but another SC stopped him from moving up further. With barely 5 minutes of racing left, there was still doubt that Dries would reach the front of the field in time. But he moved up the pack in such an incredible way, with some unbelievable overtakes, that he was already in the lead with 3 laps to spare, and won. What a race!
Many, many congratulations to everybody involved in this masterclass!
